Enjoying Your Summer Despite COVID-19

Summertime is in full swing! With COVID-19 still being an issue, we have to find ways to safely enjoy our summer. The most obvious way to do this is to get outside! From State Parks to your own backyard, let’s enjoy this summer apart, together!

How about a day trip?hiking

The outdoors is a great place to safely have fun. All Illinois and Indiana state parks are back open and being as big as they are, it’s easy to maintain a safe distance while hiking, biking, or playing in the water. Turkey Run State Park, for instance, has 11 trails and offers kayaking, tubing on the river, and much more. Want a beach day? Indiana Dunes State Park offers 15 miles of the southern coast of Lake Michigan, not to mention 50 miles of trails! That’s plenty of room to distance you and your family from others on the beach and in the water. A little closer to home is Kankakee River State Park with hiking, biking, fishing and more! Visit some of the sites at the bottom of the page to see everything these parks offer!

Want to stay in town?

poolIf you’re not up for driving or it’s the middle of the week, think local! If you’re feeling adventurous, walks and bike rides are relaxing and freeing. Watseka has 6 public parks that you can make your destination and our pool is open and ready for business. To protect against the spread of COVID-19, the Watseka Pool is following guidelines set forth by the state. According to an article by Iroquois County Times-Republic, the Watseka Pool will be taking temperatures of both the lifeguards and the general public as they enter. They will also be cleaning even more than their regular cleaning hours.

Utilize your backyard!

There are many activities you can enjoy in your very own backyard, as well! On warm days, enjoy a water balloon fight, a run through the sprinkler, or a DIY slip n’ slide. In the evening, you can grill out with your family or enjoy hotdogs and s’mores around the campfire, and you can always enjoy lawn games such as Cornhole, or giant Jenga.

Safety first!

When you’re outside, living it up this summer, remember to take precautions. Make sure to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and take breaks. Also, be sure to follow COVID-19 safety regulations, like staying 6 feet from others, wearing a mask when entering a building or around others, and washing your hands often. It’s been a hard few months but we need to make every day worthwhile. Don’t let COVID-19 put a damper on your summer. Get out of the house and enjoy some of these beautiful sunny days!
