“In the lab, we help the doctors diagnose. It is important to be quick, efficient, and accurate in our testing – we could not do that without our team of lab technicians. We have a great team and Marci is one of the best!”
Marci Gray has been a member of the IMH family for 20 years. She always had an affinity for science and when she graduated from Crescent City High School she decided to follow her passion. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a BA in biology. However, the options for a career with a biology degree are limited. She knew she didn’t want to be a nurse or a teacher – so she started asking around and doing some research. That was when she stumbled upon the position of Medical Technician. As a Medical Technician and Chem Supervisor for IMH, Marci not only processes and analyzes lab tests and provides the results to the physician, she also oversees the Chem Analyzer. This machine requires significant training as well as routine maintenance and quality control checks. Marci oversees and trains all of the new technicians on the analyzer, orders all of the supplies needed, and completes calibration and quality control testing on all 87 analytes in the machine. Over the 20 years she has been at IMH, she says the way that she does her job and the tools available have simplified and made her job easier. However, she has taken on more responsibility and works very hard to make sure that everything is organized and easy for the new technicians.
When Marci is not analyzing blood draws or calibrating the analyzer, she can usually be found spending time with her family! Marci lives with her husband Roy in the country. She raises chickens and loves to garden both flowers and vegetables! Marci has two children – Carley is 22 and studying to be a nurse; Jake is 20 and finishing his first year in the Air Force. Not only is September significant as her IMH Anniversary, she is also wishing her son a Happy 21st Birthday and watching her daughter get married this month! Interestingly enough, Marci said if said she could choose any other job she would be a meteorologist – specifically a storm chaser!! She finds them very fascinating and loves watching them.
When we asked Marci what she enjoys most about working at IMH she said, ” I love that IMH is a small enough hospital to be able to pay attention to the patients individually. I love my co-workers – my friends!” Marci has been described as hard working, organized, helpful, knowledgeable, exceptional, and great to work with!
From all of us at IMH, thank you for all you do Marci. You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!!
