IMH Superstar: Cheryl DePatis, RRT – Respiratory Therapy

“Cheryl is a great asset to IMH and and to the patients we care for” – Toni

IMG_2122In July of 1998, Cheryl DePatis started her career at IMH. She joined the IMH family after graduating Kankakee Community College with her degree in respiratory therapy, but respiratory therapy was actually her second degree. Cheryl grew up in Wilmington, IL and worked as a veterinary technician after  receiving her first degree from Parkland. Her job as a vet tech dissolved and she decided to learn a new skill. At a time when unemployment was high, Cheryl decided to take the free respiratory therapy course. Little did she know, that she would find her calling. As a respiratory therapist, Cheryl is responsible for administering breathing treatments, managing patient’s ventilators, administering EKGs and ABGs, Pulmonary Function Testing, and responding to all codes. Cheryl is not only a highly skilled registered respiratory therapist, she is also trained as a certified CPR instructor for Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and she is an active member of the IMH Auxiliary. Her dedication to IMH and her patients shines through in all she does.

When Cheryl is not taking care of patients, she would rather be home above all else. She loves spending time at her home in Donovan with her husband Darin, her dog, Diesel, and three cats – Leo, Summer, and Poppy. Darin and Cheryl have been married 30 years and love being empty-nesters with two grown daughters, Keri and Kenna. At home, Cheryl can usually be found outside either working in her yard, trail riding on her UTV, cleaning equipment, helping Darin on the farm, or simply sitting and relaxing. She also does a little crafting in her spare time. She takes old items that many would consider junk and makes them into cute craft projects. Not long ago Cheryl took a class and learned how to read Tarot Cards!

When we asked Cheryl what she enjoyed about working at IMH, she said “I love the people I work with. IMH gives me the freedom to practice my profession to the best of my ability and the way I feel it should be. I feel valued, respected, and appreciated here.” Others have noted how Cheryl “cares for her patients and always puts them first. She is very knowledgeable and uses that to provide the best care possible for her patients!”

From all of us at IMH, Thank you Cheryl for your outstanding commitment and service to IMH and the patients we serve. You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!
