IMH Superstar: Erin Sellers, RT (R) CNMT – Medical Imaging

Iroquois Memorial Hospital would not be successful without the support of each and every member of our dedicated team. The actions of some of these team members make them stand out as healthcare superstars.

Featured this week is a radiologic technologist, nuclear medicine technologist, and radiology surgical technologist all rolled into one. Erin Sellers has been a member of the IMH family for 12 years, not including the 3 years she was a student completing her clinical hours at IMH. She started her career immediately following the completion of her radiology schooling at Kankakee Community College. As a radiologic technologist she was completing x-rays, basic CT scans, working with surgical procedures that require x-ray, and other tests. While she was working as an RT (R) she continued her schooling at College of Dupage for her certification in nuclear medicine. Nuclear Med Techs use low gamma radiation to see inside the body. This type of imaging can be more precise than others. However, of many jobs that Erin does for IMH, she said her favorite is working as a radiology surgical tech, specifically with orthopedic surgeries.  In a way she feels like she is part of putting people back together.

When Erin is away from IMH, she leads a pretty simple life. She has two daughters, Caitlin and Meghan. Caitlin is a junior in high school and planning to study to become a physical therapist after high school and Meghan is attending culinary arts school. When she is not following her girls for school events, she enjoys hanging out at home and catching up on her shows with Netflix and Hulu. Her favorite show is Grey’s Anatomy, but she also watches shows like The ResidentHandmaid’s Tale, and – her guilty pleasure – Teen Mom and Teen Mom OG. She took time last year and attended a sign language class — the final for the class was to “sing” a song while signing the words and she can still sign the whole song!

When we asked Erin what she enjoyed about working at IMH, she said “Here at a small hospital we can treat the patients like people not numbers. But more than that, this is my family; like most families they have been there for me through ups and downs. I am so grateful and thankful for them.” Co-workers of Erin said that she is “wonderful” and doesn’t hesitate to go “above and above expectations”. Between Erin’s dedication to IMH, consistent positive attitude, and willingness to help out wherever she can, Erin has proven many times over that she is a superstar.

From all of us at IMH – Thank you Erin for your commitment and service. You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!
