IMH Superstar: Janien Yates, ADN – Specialty Clinic

Iroquois Memorial Hospital would not be successful without the support of our incredible staff. Some members stand out as Superstars!

Each week, we will be featuring a new Superstar staff member to highlight their outstanding commitment and dedication to IMH and the patients we serve.

This week’s featured employee is Janien Yates. Janien is a Watseka native and received her nursing degree from Kankakee Community College. She now lives in the country just outside of Watseka with her family. Janien is a nurse in the IMH Specialty Clinic and has been a member of the IMH family for 32 years. She began her career at IMH working midnight shift on the Medical Surgical floor, then moved to day shift for the Surgery Department, and finally found her way to the Specialty Clinic. In the Specialty Clinic, she assists with chemotherapy and infusions for patients.

When she is not taking care of patients, Janien enjoys spending time at home with her family and tending to her garden. Janien and her husband Dan have been married for 47 years. Together, they have two grown children Amy, who is also a member of the IMH family, and Jeremy, who is stationed in Korea for the Air Force. Janien’s entire family is actually quite involved in the military. Not only is her son station in Korea, she has a grandson who is a paratrooper stationed in Alaska, a grandson-in-law who is a in the Navy, and another grandson who is joining the Army in June! Janien is also becoming a great-grandmother in June, putting her at 5 grandchildren and one great-grandbaby. In her down time, she loves camping at Timbered Meadows with her daughter and grandchildren. Janien also loves gardening, baking, and canning her grown vegetables. She said canning is one of the most satisfying things for her because at the end of the day she can look around and see all that she has accomplished.

Janien was nominated as IMH Healthcare Superstar because of her attentive, diligent, and incredible patient care. She was described as smart, caring, and resourceful. When we asked Janien why she enjoyed working at IMH she said, “The size of the community – I love that I get to see people after treatment; they will recognize me and take time to tell me how they are doing. I get to know the people and I love taking care of the community.”

From all of us at IMH, thank you Janien for your outstanding service!! You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!
