Iroquois Memorial Hospital would not be successful without the support of our incredible staff. Some members stand out as Superstars!
Each week, we will be featuring a new Superstar staff member to highlight their outstanding commitment and dedication to IMH and the patients we serve.
This week’s featured employee is Michelle Fairley. Michelle has been a member of the IMH family for 22 years. When she started at IMH she was a nurse in Surgery, now she is one of two Chief Nursing Officers – overseeing Surgery, Progressive Care Unit, Specialty Clinic, Central Sterile Supply, and Anesthesia. Michelle graduated from Iroquois West High School and received her nursing degree from Kankakee Community College, but not before becoming a scrub tech, a certified computer technician, and living in Japan for four years! But nursing has always been her calling. From the time she was a young girl watching medical TV shows in the 1970s, she has always had a passion for nursing.
Michelle lives in the country outside of Gilman with her husband of 20 years, Tony, and youngest child Mallory, who is a freshman in High School. She also has two older children, Mark and Tayler. Michelle loves Cubs Baseball and if you’re not sure how big of a fan she is, just have her call her farm cats – Wrigley, Rizzo, Jake, Kris, and Snickers (the oddball). Spring and Fall are very busy times for Michelle. In addition to working full time at IMH, she also helps Tony with farming. In the spring while the guys are planting, she is a runner and makes extra meals and treats for the workers. In the fall, you can often find her in a combine helping with harvest. In the rare moments that Michelle has time to herself, she loves being outdoors: landscaping, hiking, boating, etc. She also loves to travel all over the world. She and her family have been everywhere from Hawaii to Japan, and her favorite place to visit is Okinawa.
When we asked Michelle why she enjoyed working at IMH she said, “We are family. We all work together as a team, treating each other with dignity and respect.” Michelle is very invested in and passionate about IMH and the roles we play in community. This fact is evident in all she does for IMH.
From all of us at IMH, thank you Michelle for your outstanding service. You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!
