IMH Superstar: Rebecca Wright, COO

Iroquois Memorial Hospital would not be successful without the support of our incredible staff. Some members stand out as Superstars!

Each week, we will be featuring a new Superstar staff member to highlight their outstanding commitment and dedication to IMH and the patients we serve.

This week’s featured employee is Rebecca Wright. Rebecca grew up in the Chicago area, attending Mother McCauley Catholic School for part of her high school, then finishing at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, MO.  She began working in healthcare while she was still in high school. She worked at a neighborhood pharmacy at age 16, and fell in love with helping people get the care they need. She, then, moved on to work as a Pharmacy Tech in a large hospital in Kansas City while she attended college at Kansas City University. Following completion of her Bachelor’s, Rebecca took a position as a purchaser for a lumber yard. However, it did not take long for her to realize that she missed working in healthcare. She moved back to Chicago and began working at a larger hospital downtown, while she continued her education at Saint Xavier’s University. This month, Rebecca celebrates five years as a member of the IMH family. In that time, she has completed her MBA with a focus in Health Care Administration, risen from the role of Purchasing Director to Chief Operating Officer, and, with the help of  IMH staff, worked diligently to renovate many areas of the hospital.

When Rebecca is not fulfilling her many duties at IMH, she enjoys spending time with her family.  Rebecca and her husband, Mike, will celebrate 19 years together this June. Their three children are all very active in sports and school activities. Her oldest son, Tim, is 16 and plays high school football and baseball, as well as travel baseball out of Chicago. Zach, age 13, plays basketball for school and a competitive league in Bradley. Her daughter, Emily, is no exception. At age 9,  she already plays softball, golf, and is a dancer.  The children’s love of sports comes naturally; Rebecca and her husband love to play golf and Mike has coached many of the kid’s teams. Although it may seem impossible, despite their busy schedules, Rebecca and her family still make time for traveling! Sometimes, if the timing opens up, Mike and Rebecca will load up with the children and take random road trips with little to no planning. Her favorite place to vacation, though, is anywhere that involves water, like visiting lakes or oceans.

When we asked Rebecca what she enjoys about working at IMH, she said, “I love working at IMH because, as a rural health provider, we are essential to this community.  It is my job to make sure that everyone on my team has the resources necessary to do their job and to do it well.  I love that, as a health care executive, no two days are alike.  This position has made me fully understand the important role that rural health care providers play and also the struggles that we face on a daily basis.” Being an executive at IMH, Rebecca is a leader for a great number of employees. Nevertheless, many will note she always takes the time to ensure that each employee feels important, acknowledged, and recognized.  That was most evident when she said, “Healthcare, no matter your role, is a team sport. I’m most proud of the great staff we have at IMH.  One of my favorite projects has been the facility upgrades we’ve completed this past year.  It’s a great feeling to hear our staff, patients, and visitors notice the positive changes.”

From all of us at IMH, thank you Rebecca for your outstanding service and leadership. You are a true Superstar in Healthcare!
